Van Baerle Trio

Impressions

Chausson, Lili Boulanger, Ravel

Music has evolved more often by waves than by sudden jerks, as you’ll hear in this French programme that transports you from the late romantic to beyond Impressionism. With Ernest Chausson, the search for ethereal sonorities is already clearly underway.

These sounds unfold themselves gorgeously further in two short pieces by Lili Boulanger, who showed such huge potential for early-20th-century French music but died tragically young. Lastly, by the time of Maurice Ravel, impressionism has become more a memory than a future.
