A History of the Voice - Self Care II

Walshe

Don’t be misled by the academic-sounding title. Anyone who still remembers the work that Jennifer Walshe performed in 2015 with the Nadar Ensemble, knows that A History of the Voice - Self Care II will be anything but historical.

The composer has carte blanche to explore the vocal limits of the four singers of the new HYOID, using her inimitable powers of association. In her preliminary notes about this work, Walshe mentioned Billy Joel in the same breath as chanting in bizarre sects, and somewhere the question arose of what it means for a person to teach a dolphin to count in a New Jersey accent…

Composition commission by HYOID Contemporary Voices, with the support of ernst von siemens music foundation.
