Meccore String Quartet
Mysterie & meesterschap
Szymanowski is one of the many 20th-century composers whose name we know but not his music.
In fact there’s no good explanation for this; hearing the Polish composer’s string quartets just once is all you need to convince you of their matchless excellence. Like the Debussy quartet, the unusual subtlety and range of shades in these works make them enchanting from the first note to the last. Despite the unmistakable French influence, Szymanowski also succeeds effortlessly in creating his own extremely authentic voice.
In the same way as last year, when the Czech Pavel Haas Quartet took the audience by surprise with a poignant quartet by the composer whose name they share, the Polish Meccore Quartet is being given a forum in which to present one of their greatest artists in all his compelling finesse.
