His programs are often highly unusual both on a technical and intellectual level, often combining the classical repertoire with premieres of new works written especially for him.

Tom Johnson
As a minimalist composer, Tom Johnson (°1939, USA) works with very limited material, but sets himself apart through his use of mathematical procedures, which is one of the defining traits of his work. The greater part of his training took place with Morton Feldman. John Cage, who he met later on, would also have a decisive influence in his career as a composer.
Frederic Rzewski
American composer and pianist Frederic Rzewski (1938-2021) had a career spanning more than 60 years, during which he explored diverse musical genres and often pushed boundaries: from orchestral and vocal music to chamber music and a large number of piano works that he often performed himself. He deliberately made his work accessible in order to keep his music, which almost always had political, left-wing overtones, understandable to the working class.
