Wibert Aerts & Centre Henri Pousseur

Jean-Luc Fafchamps, Kee Yong Chong

Put together Wibert Aerts’ finesse on the violin and the exponential possibilities of live electronics and it is practically inevitable that sparks will fly. With works by Jean-Pierre Deleuze, Luc Brewaeys, Peter Eötvös and half a globe away Kee Yong Chong, ensure a concert full of variety as well. Fun fact: the first time Kee Yong Chong played a premiere at Transit was in 2003 – having just graduated from Brussels. Now he is returning more than twenty years later, as one of Southeast Asia’s leading composers.

Wibert Aerts

Wibert Aerts

One of the most versatile and distinguished Belgian violinists of his generation, Wibert Aerts has earned a special reputation in the modern-contemporary repertoire for violin. Since 1998, he has been a member of the internationally acclaimed chamber music quintet Het Collectief. Aerts has played many creations for violin solo, some of which have been dedicated to him by composers such as Luc Brewaeys and Bram van Camp.

Centre Henri Pousseur

Since its foundation in 1970, the Centre Henri Pousseur has played a pioneering role and has been involved in the production and dissemination of electronic music and, in particular, mixed music. As a place of experimentation, exchange and contemporary realizations, centre welcomes projects of artists from the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, as well as from other regions of the country and from abroad.

Composer

Jean-Luc Fafchamps

Jean-Luc Fafchamps

Jean-Luc Fafchamps is a Belgian pianist, composer and member of the contemporary music ensemble Ictus. The piano played a central role in his first compositions, before his interest for non-tempered harmonies and polyphony of timbre lead to new sound combinations. First designed for theater and dance, his work gradually shifted to concert music, performed by ensembles such as Ensemble Intercontemporain, Musiques Nouvelles and Champs d’Action.

Kee Yong Chong

Kee Yong Chong

Malaysian composer Kee Yong Chong possesses an exciting voice in new music. The uniqueness of his music stems not only from a rich palette of sounds, but also from his experimentation into traditions, infusing his own Chinese and multi-cultural Malaysian heritage. Chong’s work has been hailed as “imaginative and poetic” by conductor-composer Peter Eötvös, and as “very inventive and artistically pure” by composer Jonathan Harvey.
