MATRIX-project Symfonieorkest d'Academie Sint-Niklaas
MATRIX-project
For Ropes, Shalan Alhamwy found inspiration in Brugsepoort, a neighbourhood in Ghent with a mix of nationalities and cultures and a lively atmosphere, but also poverty. Alhamwy’s creation reflects its daily life, embracing a huge range of musical traditions, from Gnawa (a traditional Moroccan music style characterised by African rhythms) to Western romantic.
But who honks in the night? And with a lot of cars! It will surely be a wedding party procession of someone from the neighbourhood. The street enters the concert hall and adds special timbres to the 80-piece symphony orchestra of d'Academie Podium Sint-Niklaas.
Coproduction MATRIX [Centrum voor Nieuwe Muziek] in cooperation with d’Academie Podium Sint-Niklaas en Jeugkoor (Youth Choir) SLAC Conservatorium under the direction of Paul Sojo and Pieter-Jan Van den Broeck.
With support from Sabam for Culture, the City of Sint-Niklaas
