Marlies Cornelis

Frederik Croene, Benjamin Windelinckx

The young Flemish pianist Marlies Cornelis will play three works especially written for and by her in this solo recital, which highlights her many and varied talents and interests. She’ll question the pianistic tradition (Frederik Croene), and you’ll hear her fascination with female composers (Cécile Chaminade’s Air de ballet, which serves the basis for Benjamin Windelinckx’s piece) and her own work, in which she uses an African kalimba and electronics to explore the ways in which female pianists are perceived and sexualised.
