Yarn/Wire
If you’ve seen this ensemble at Transit before, you’ll remember that the New York-based quartet always manages to evoke wholly unexpected sonic worlds with two pianos and a mixed bag of percussion instruments. This time is no exception. Lisa Streich has equipped the pianos with tiny motors that softly pluck the strings, and furthermore, she’s tuned them in quarter tones, creating an ‘orchestra’ as subtle as it is unworldly. It was the big sensation at the Venice Biennale, and here you’ll hear it coupled with the equally exciting microtonal music of Alex Mincek.

Composers
Lisa Streich
Swedish composer Lisa Streich (°1985) studied composition and organ in Berlin, Stockholm, Salzburg, Paris, and Cologne. She has received commissions from several ensembles such as Ensemble intercontemporain and Quatuor Diotima. She also composed music for theater and opera. The dialogue on music, art, and their possibilities is a subject that is particularly close to her heart.
Alex Mincek
