SLAC, Boho Strings Antwerp o.l.v. David Ramael, Tony Nys
Flow My Tears
Lachrymae (Tears) is a rarely played but beautifully intimate master-piece by Benjamin Britten, full of colour and mystery. As he often did, Britten took inspiration from music by predecessors from long ago, in this case John Dowland (1563-1626).
To make the listening experience as intense as possible, the original Dowland songs will be draped around Britten’s work, as it were. The performers are students of the SLAC and the professionals from Boho Strings Antwerp. If you want to prepare yourself even more for this concert, please come to the satellite concert on 15 October.

Boho Strings Antwerp
Boho Strings Antwerp is a Belgian string ensemble founded by conductor David Ramael and violinist Jessica Tortorice. The ensemble is known for its imaginative programming. Through music, it deepens our understanding of what it means to be human and creates shared experiences across different perspectives. Boho approaches music not as historical heritage, but as a living artistic document that speaks directly to the present and invites the audience into a shared experience.
David Ramael
David Ramael is a conductor and the founder of Boho Strings Antwerp. In his work, he explores not only how music sounds, but also how it conveys meaning — as a form of thought and experience. In addition to his work with Boho, he has conducted orchestras such as the Belgian National Orchestra and the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, and is active in the opera world, including with Zomeropera Alden Biesen. A significant part of his practice also involves sharing his artistic vision through masterclasses and lectures.
Tony Nys
Chamber music is a natural setting for violist Tony Nys. Since 2005, he has been a permanent member of the TrioFenix String Trio and regularly collaborates with ensembles such as Ictus, Ensemble Modern and Oxalys. Until 2018, Nys played as principal violist in La Monnaie’s symphony orchestra. As a member of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, he has performed all over the world with conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Pierre Boulez and Gustavo Duhamel. As a teacher, Nys works at the Royal Conservatoire of Brussels and the Orpheus Institute in Ghent.
