Koren & strijkersorkest SLAC, Laurens de Man
Rejoice!
Writing for music lovers – amateurs in the literal sense of the word – was always one of Britten’s great passions. Throughout his life, he sought to reconcile his own style with the abilities of amateur musicians. Thanks to the rich musical culture in England’s churches, his oeuvre includes many gorgeous works for choir.
Today the choirs of the SLAC will join forces to perform two short Te Deums and the magnificent Rejoice in the Lamb. You’ll also hear the strings of the SLAC, playing Arvo Pärt’s moving elegy written after Britten’s death in 1976.
With thanks to the Contius Foundation
