Latvian Radio Choir

Eternal light

Sergej Rachmaninov, Ēriks Ešenvalds, James MacMillan, György Ligeti, Arvo Pärt, Pēteris Vasks

Anyone seeking salvation in the twilight zone between human creativity and divine inspiration will find solace in this concert

One of the great paradoxes of our contemporary music culture is that the less religious we become, the more receptive we seem to be to sacred music. The church is in decline, yet our yearning for spirituality is noticeably increasing.

Rachmaninoff’s Vespers have joined the ranks of the ‘classics’; the much more recent religious choral music by Pärt, McMillan, Ligeti and others will ensure some new revelations.

The Latvian Radio Choir is considered one of Europe’s best choirs today. Conducted by Sigvards Klava, the choir has built a strong reputation world-wide in a diversity of repertoires, but of course they really excel in the performance of their own sacred music.

The Latvian Radio Choir is an award-winning collective of professional singers performing a broad repertoire, from early to contemporary music. Over the past twenty years it developed the vision of a choir as a multi-layered instrument, in which the sounding whole is created by each individual and by its unique timbral palette. Founded in 1940, the choir has been under the direction of artistic director and chief conductor Sigvards Kļava since 1992.

The Latvian Radio Choir excels in the performance of their own sacred music.
