LUDWIG & Vincent van Amsterdam
The many sketches Wim Henderickx left on his desk after his sudden death included largely finished plans for a concerto for accordion and strings. The work has now been completed by Diederik Glorieux, Henderickx’s musical right-hand man for two decades, and will have its posthumous world premiere at Transit. You’ll also hear other works by Henderickx, Ukrainian composer Maxim Shalygin and a premiere by the young Flemish composer Benjamin Windelinckx. LUDWIG, the Dutch orchestra of Grammy award-winning fame through their work with Barbara Hannigan, teams up with accordeon virtuoso Vincent van Amsterdam. This promises to be a most exciting combination.
Performers
LUDWIG
LUDWIG was founded in 2012 by six Dutch orchestral musicians. LUDWIG’s programming is as thoroughly thought out as it is adventurous. They wanted a collective that would stand out not only artistically, but also in scope and flexibility. LUDWIG effortlessly brings together composers from different time periods, styles, and backgrounds. The musicians experiment with different forms of presentation and collaborate with makers in other disciplines in order to change the way people experience a concert, and have staged a number of legendary appearances with leading soloists.
Vincent van Amsterdam
With Dutch accordionist Vincent van Amsterdam, virtuosity serves expression, in small and large gestures. His active role as a promoter of his instrument has many facets. He constantly explores the fascinating possibilities of the relatively young instrument. In personal contact with composers and through commissions, van Amsterdam regularly adds new compositions to the repertoire.
