Boho Strings Antwerp dir. David Ramael & soloists
Illuminations
The closing concert on this Britten-based day consists exclusively of masterpieces. Les Illuminations and the Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings are gems of nuance and subtle text expression. The Variations are Benjamin Britten’s effervescent tribute to his most important mentor, Frank Bridge. As much as the three works are all ‘genuine Britten’, they vary tremendously in form and expression.
David Ramael and his Boho Strings Antwerp have for years harboured a deep love of the music of the Englishman’s music. This is not only because Britten wrote so astonishingly well for strings, but also, and possibly more so, because his message of humanity and compassion is so inspiring.
With soloists Lore Binon (soprano), Ilker Arcayürek (tenor) and David Fernandez Alonso (horn).

Performers
Boho Strings Antwerp
Boho Strings Antwerp is a Belgian string ensemble founded by conductor David Ramael and violinist Jessica Tortorice. The ensemble is known for its imaginative programming. Through music, it deepens our understanding of what it means to be human and creates shared experiences across different perspectives. Boho approaches music not as historical heritage, but as a living artistic document that speaks directly to the present and invites the audience into a shared experience.
David Ramael
David Ramael is a conductor and the founder of Boho Strings Antwerp. In his work, he explores not only how music sounds, but also how it conveys meaning — as a form of thought and experience. In addition to his work with Boho, he has conducted orchestras such as the Belgian National Orchestra and the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, and is active in the opera world, including with Zomeropera Alden Biesen. A significant part of his practice also involves sharing his artistic vision through masterclasses and lectures.
Lore Binon
Lore Binon began her musical career as a violinist, but her passion for singing soon took precedence. She is known as a versatile singer with a subtle sense of interpretation. Binon moves effortlessly between different styles and eras, and is recognised in both historical performance practice and the contemporary repertoire. She is co-founder of the Revue Blanche ensemble and has a particular love for the intimate lieder repertoire.
Ilker Arcayürek
The Istanbul-born tenor Ilker Arcayürek, who grew up in Vienna, began his operatic career at the Zurich Opera Studio and subsequently became an ensemble member at Stadttheater Klagenfurt and Staatstheater Nürnberg. On the concert platform, Arcayürek regularly collaborates with renowned orchestras. Alongside opera and concert work, art song holds a special place in his artistic activities. Recent engagements included a return to Opera Ballet Vlaanderen in 2025, where he successfully debuted as Max in Weber’s Der Freischütz.
David Fernández Alonso
David Fernández Alonso was born Spain and is now principal horn of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. He performs worldwide as a soloist and chamber musician. He has played with various orchestras worldwide and has shared his knowledge and passion through lessons and masterclasses at several conservatories. Since 2024, Alonso teaches horn at the Rotterdam Conservatory Codarts.
